Principal, RHM Interactive; Montclair, NJ — 2008-Present
RHM Interactive is my freelance web design & development studio. Recent work includes:
- Todootz (todootz.com): A web application designed for managing to-do lists.
- Woolly Boo (woollyboo.com): I provided IA, design and development services to an upstart manufacturer of organic crib bedding and infant sleep sacks.
- Collegeville Textbook Company (ctcmsu.com): I provided IA, design and development services for an independent textbook retailer serving the Michigan State University campus population.
Sr. UI Developer/HTML Team Lead, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia; New York, NY — 2008-2010
The Sr. UI Developer is responsible for overseeing all client-side code (XHTML, CSS, Javascript) developed as part of the Martha Stewart family of websites, including marthastewart.com, marthastew-artweddings.com and wholeliving.com. As a Team Lead, I act as a mentor for my teammates, providing guidance and feedback throughout project lifecycles.
Front-End Architect, Ogilvy & Mather; New York, NY — 2008
As a Front-End Architect, I am responsible for designing and implementing the client-side code for our clients’ websites using XHTML, CSS and Javascript. Since I’ve been with Ogilvy, I’ve worked on interactive projects for brands such as Slim·Fast, Honey Bunches of Oats and Kozy-Shack Puddings.
Sr. Interface Developer, Fry, Inc.; New York, NY — 2006-2008
As a Sr. Interface Developer at Fry, my main responsibilities included presentation layer development using HTML/XHTML, CSS, Javascript and JSP. During my tenure there I’ve worked on sites for a range of clients, including Godiva Chocolatier, Gevalia Kaffe, and P.C. Richard & Sons.
I was the interface development lead for La-Z-Boy Galleries' store-front initiative (http://la-z-boy.com), the redesign of Fortunoff.com (http://fortunoff.com) and for the initial design for K. Jordan Apparel (http://kjordan.com). Additionally, I oversaw an accessibility/ADA-compliance initiative for the New York office.
Sr. Information Technology Professional, University of Vermont; Burlington, Vermont — 2001-2006
While at UVM, I had the privilege of developing numerous Flash-based learning objects, including games, simulations, and online lab environments; being the technical and/or project lead on several web development projects, including:
- UVM Center for Teaching & Learning Website (www.uvm.edu/ctl): Responsible for development of all aspects of dynamic content delivery, including up-to-date event listings and iCalendar feed, event management (for both users and staff), real-time support schedule and ticketing, and RSS integration with the CTL Blog.
- FOREST Website (www.uvm.edu/envnr/forestry): Responsible for development of all aspects of the FOREST site, including IA, HTML design & development, and all Flash production.
- WebCT Gateway Website (www.uvm.edu/webct): Technical Lead for development of a campus-wide portal into our eLearning system, WebCT.
- National Institute on Leadership, Disability and Students Placed at Risk (www.uvm.edu/nildspar): Responsible for all aspects of design and development of the NILDSPAR website. Project requirements included full accessibility/508 compliance, development of a content management system to enable Institute administrative staff to update the site.
- UVM Police Services (www.uvm.edu/police): Working with an outside marketing firm, I was technical lead on re-designing the UVM Police Services web presence. Project requirements included a content management system to rapidly deploy campus-wide alerts, and automated dissemination of daily, monthly, and annual reports.
Graphic Designer, Burlington Free Press; Burlington, Vermont — 1998-2001
As a designer at the Free Press, my initial job was ad layout using Quark XPress. This quickly evolved into a production coordinator role, managing the production of the paper’s monthly real estate publication, Real Estate Extra (40,000/monthly). During my tenure at the Free Press, I was also trained as the assistant scanner operator to perform color correction on photos for both editorial and advertising.
Web Developer, rhm design; Burlington, Vermont — 1995-2006
rhm design was my Burlington-based freelance business providing Web and Flash development for a range of customers:
- Front Porch Forum (www.frontporchforum.com): Provided a full suite of services to a local startup to transition an existing managed mailing list for a neighborhood newsletter into a scalable website and email-based newsletter publishing system. Features include user authentication and access based on physical address, multiple avenues for message posting, including web and email, and administrative control panel to manage users, messages, and newsletter publishing.
- Vermont Rural Water Association (www.vtruralwater.org) : Provided full Web development services to a local non-profit, including layout, design, and development of user interface, information architecture, and content management system to provide dynamic data to the user.
- Lisaius Marketing (www.lisaius.com): Implemented front-end design using Photoshop, HTML, PHP, as well as a client extranet for delivering proofs to clients.
- Signature Properties of Vermont (www.signaturepropertiesvt.com) : Coordinated with a graphic designer to implement a templated user interface and add connectivity with the regional MLS to provide current listings data to users. Developed a content management system for the client to update the site and manage listings data.
